One Month Before the Deadline
There is one big question hanging over South Dakota's U.S. Senate race.
Should it remain a three-way race? Or should one challenger step aside before the August 4 withdrawal deadline?
It's a question we've seen debated everywhere since our conversation between Julian Beaudion and Brian Bengs aired.
Some believe electability should be the deciding factor. Others believe voters, not campaigns, should make that decision in November. Before anything changes, we'd like to take a snapshot of where our audience stands today.
So we're trying something new.
Introducing the TSDP Pulse
The TSDP Pulse is a short, anonymous survey designed to better understand what South Dakotans are thinking about the issues shaping our elections.
Our first survey focuses on the July 1 Senate conversation, the upcoming August 4 withdrawal deadline, and the choices voters may face over the next month.
It takes about two minutes to complete.
Take the survey below. If you have any issue completing it on this page, click here.
Why now?
The next few weeks could be significant.
The deadline for candidates to withdraw from the general election is August 4.
We'll also see the next round of FEC fundraising reports later this month. Those reports will likely become part of the conversation about electability, campaign momentum, and the path forward.
Rather than speculate, we'd like to understand what South Dakotans think before those events unfold.
After the survey closes, we'll publish a summary of what we learned.
Haven't watched the conversation yet?
We've embedded it below so you can watch it before taking the survey.
Thank you
One thing we've appreciated over the past week is that people have been willing to wrestle with difficult questions, even when they reached different conclusions.
That's healthy.
Whatever happens over the next month, our goal remains the same: to help South Dakotans become more informed voters by creating opportunities for thoughtful conversation and listening just as carefully as we ask questions.
